Caledonia Clerk Wendy Christensen is hoping to replace County Clerk Joan Rennert in the fall. Christensen will kick-off her campaign for the county-wide elected office on Wednesday, June 11.
"I believe that someone with experience as a municipal clerk would be a benefit to that office since Joan Rennert has decided to retire at the end of her term," Christensen wrote in an announcement.
Christensen has been the clerk in Caledonia for 13 years. Here's a nice rundown of her background, as reported by Caledonia Unplugged.

CNH building office in Caledonia?
The Milwaukee Business Journal is working on a local bombshell of a story. CNH may be building a new 300,000 square-foot office building in Caledonia.
Here's the latest report from the Biz Journal, which describes the new CNH office building as the "largest pending office deal in southeast Wisconsin."
They haven't quite nailed the story, though. Officials from Legacy Development, owned by Caledonia's John Helding, and Twelve Oaks Investment Co. did not comment for the story.
The Biz Journal did report Feb. 29, though, that Legacy was selling 320 acres of its Twelve Oaks development - about half of the total development - to a Racine County investment group for $6.9 million, and work could begin on the land "late this year or early next year."
With the latest news, it seems like CNH is preparing to move on its new building in the near future.

Spring Elections: Local candidates running for office
Wednesday was the filing deadline for candidates running for local offices. Below is the list of who is running in Racine, Mount Pleasant, Caledonia and for the County Board. The primary election is February 20. The general election is April 3.
Here's the list:
Racine
This is almost the same list we ran last week. Two of the potential candidates didn't turn in signatures. That leaves three contested elections, and one newcomer.
Terry McCarthy, who narrowly lost to Pete Karas last year, will takeover for Karas in the ninth aldermanic district. Karas, an insurance agent, abruptly resigned after learning about an obscure state law that prohibits elected officials from doing business with anyone who has a liquor license.
The two hot races will come in the second and fourth districts. In the second, incumbent Robert Anderson is being challenged by Jameel Ghuari, who is head of the Bray Center. In the fourth district, incumbent James Kaplan is being challenged by Ken Lumpkin, who is a County Board supervisor. Kaplan returned the favor and is challenging Lumpkin for his County Board seat.
In the 12th District, incumbent Aron Wisneski is being challenged by Joseph Legath.
Incumbents Sandy Weidner, Q.A. Shakoor, Tom Friedel and Ron Hart were not challenged for re-election.

PROPERTY TRANSFERS: Norway home sells for a bargain at $832,000

The big deal of the week was an $832,000 home at 4395 Southdown Drive in Norway. The five-bedroom, 4.5 bath home was listed at $895,000 by Century 21. It had been on the market for more than 30 days.
